Habitat Assembly Instructions

The Habitat series consists of one main frame section.

1) Raise the mainframe into the vertical position and extend all roof/truss bars to their fully extended positions. The mainframe roof/truss bars fold out like an umbrella. Depress the thumb button and pull the telescopic roof bars out until the thumb button snaps and locks into position on all 8-roof/truss bars.

2) Snap-lock in all 8 eave bars with velcro strip inlay facing to the outside of the structure. Bars snap-lock into each corner block on the roof/truss assembly by depressing the thumb button and sliding the eave bar on until the thumb button snaps through the eave bar hole.

3) Gently squeeze the vertical leg support bars and roof/truss bars together to remove the chained locking pin. Drop the vertical bars to the ground.

4) Place the roof cover over the frame with the aluminum disc centered on the frame peak. Align the seam along top of the roof bars. Drop the vent cap into the disc and frame top so that the vent cap lies flat on the roof cover. Secure the vent cap hook/spring assembly to the mainframe to prevent the vent cap from flying off in high wind conditions. Engage the velcro strips on the roof edge to the velcro on the eave bars around the entire circumference of the Habitat.

5) Raise one side of the entire structure allowing vertical leg support bars to fully swing into the upright position. Repeat on the opposite side and insert the chained lock pins into the locking hole. Repeat this procedure with all 8 vertical leg support bars.

6) Snap in all the base bars in the same fashion as in 2) above. Base bars have no inlaid velcro strips.

Note: If the shelter is on uneven ground, the base bars may not lock immediately. If this is the case, move the base slightly in and out or lift the vertical support slightly until the snap-lock finds the locking position. The frame is designed to compensate for uneven ground and will find its true octagonal character as the base bars lock into position.

7) Insert the expanded door frame into the structure centered in any wall opening. Ensure the door seats properly on the eave bar and secure the roof cover velcro on the inlaid velcro at the top of the door.

8) Pull the roof cover tightly over the eave bars and secure matching corners to corners. It is very important to pull the walls as tight as possible around the circumference as summer heat conditions tend to relax the cover material slightly, winter cold conditions shrink the cover slightly. A tight fit upon installation will minimize this effect in all seasons.

9) Wall panels (3) have coloured vertical velcro, which should be matched. Starting at one side of the door (left or right), apply the correct wall panel to the frame along the velcro strips on the roof. Seal to the velcro strip down the door. Repeat from the other side of the door. Install remaining wall panel to match colour coded ends. Gray velcro strips attach to the door with matching coloured velcro on the ends of each wall panel. Bug screen should be facing the outside of the shelter.

10) Reverse the procedure for disassembly.

ROOF FOLDING PROCEDURE FOR DISASSEMBLY:

Fold the roof while it is still on the frame. Treat the roof section as if it were a rectangular piece. Fold one half one foot beyond the opposite edge of the roof cap. Fold the same half again one foot beyond the opposite edge of the roof cap. Repeat the procedure with the other half. Starting with either folded end, fold to the center. Repeat with the other end, folding to the center. Lift the folded package off the frame.

OPTIONAL INSULATION PACKAGE:

The insulated cover is secured to the mainframe identically as the exterior cover described above. The insulated cover must be placed on the frame before the exterior cover. The exterior cover secures to the insulated cover with velcro. The silver shiny side to the insulated cover faces out and the white side faces in.

Long Habitat Assembly

The Long Habitat requires these parts for assembly.
Two mainframes plus one mid peak frame are required to form the roof structure.
Expand all tele-bars and seat each mid-roof bar (4) on the corner block buttons.
Join and secure the two peak bars at each key-flange with the locking pin.
The completed Long Habitat roof assembly.
Unfold the roof cover centering the roof cones over each key-flange pipe.
Place each weather cap over the two roof peaks until properly seated.  Secure the caps to the mainframe using the spring clip shown.
With two people, lift each side of the Long Habitat up one side at a time. Snap-lock in all base-bars.

Long Habitat Assembly Instructions

THE LONG HABITAT series consists of two identical mainframe sections and a separate centre support frame. The ridgeline bars are on the separate centre support frame.

1) Determine the desired position or placement of the shelter in advance.

2) Raise the two mainframe sections to a vertical position and swing out all roof truss bars to their fully extended position. Press spring pins and pull roof bars out until the pins snap into place. The keyflange has a section with the two parallel bars, with a pin and chain that should be pointed towards the other mainframe.

3) Snap in all eave bars onto the corner blocks with the velcro strip to the outside. If the shelter is on uneven ground, it may be necessary to gently move the eave bars in and out or up and down until they lock into position. Align the two mainframe sections so as the last two eave bars join these sections together, and the two side bars are parallel to each other.

4 ) Extend the centre support frame and attach ridgeline bars to the section on the mainframe keyflange with the locking pin.

5) Gently squeeze the vertical leg support bars and roof truss bars together to remove the chained locking pins. Drop the vertical leg bars to the ground.

6) Fit the four (4) mid bars to lock into the four (4) snap pins on the corners of the mainframes. Once these four mid bars are in place, make sure the snap pins are in place with the telescopic roof bars.

7) Place the roof cover on the centre of the ridgeline unfolding towards the ends of the shelter so that the aluminum disks drop over the mainframe centres. Drop the vent caps into disks and frame tops so the vent caps lie flat on the roof cover. Open roof cover and attach velcro on edge strips onto the eave bar velcro. This attachment does not have to be final as the alignment and tightening of the roof cover is best done when the frame is in the upright position (see section 8 & 9).

8) Raise one long side of the entire structure allowing the vertical leg support bars to fully swing into the upright position. Repeat from the opposite side and insert chained locking pins to secure the uprights.

9 ) Snap-lock in all base bars similar to the eave bars. Again, if the shelter is on uneven ground the base bars may not lock immediately. If this is the case, move the base bar gently in and out or lift the vertical support slightly until the snap-lock finds the locking position. The frame is designed to compensate for uneven ground and will find its true character as the base bars lock into position.

10) Insert the expanded door centered in either end panel of the structure.

11) Wall panels (4) have coloured vertical velcro which should be matched. Starting at one side of the door (left or right), apply the correct wall panel to the frame along the velcro strips on the roof. Seal to the velcro strip down the door. Repeat from the other side of the door. Install the remaining wall panel to match velcro. Gray velcro strips attach to door and by matching coloured velcro will complete the side wall sections.

12) Reverse the procedure for disassembly.

ROOF FOLDING PROCEDURE:

Fold the roof while it is still on the frame. Treat the roof section as if it were a rectangular piece. Fold one half, one foot beyond the opposite edge of the roof cap. Fold the same half again one foot beyond the opposite edge of the roof cap. Repeat the procedure with the other half. Starting with either folded end, fold to the centre.  Repeat with the other end, folding to the centre. Lift the folded package off the frame. Since the roof section will go back on the frame first, it should be put back in the field bag last after the wall panels.

Bunk Bed Assembly

Assembly of the bunk beds should be self explanatory. The only area of clarifaction required is to ensure that the bolt passes through the inside portion of the aluminum hammock frame and through the leg stand assembly before being secured with a wing nut. When assembled, the hamocks of the bunk beds should be taught. Also, insure that the diagonal brace bar is installed properly. This bar provides horizontal stability. The bar should be placed over the bolt protruding through the leg stand assembly then secured with a wing nut. Eight bolts and eight wing nuts are all that is required for complete assembly.

Bunk requires 5 components plus bolts.
Unfold 2 leg mainframe assemblies.
Unfold 2 bunk hammock assemblies.
Pass bolt through inside - secure with wingnut.
Secure diagonal brace bar.
Hand tighten 8 wingnuts for stability.
